DIN (Director Identification Number) is a unique 8-digit number allotted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) to individuals intending to become directors in Indian companies.
DIN Activation refers to the process of making a
DIN active and valid for use — especially important when:
⇒ A new DIN is being applied for
⇒ An existing DIN is inactive due to non-filing of DIR-3 KYC
⇒ A disqualified DIN needs reactivation
Steps for DIN Activation:
1) New DIN Application
⇒ File Form DIR-3 with identity proof, address proof, and digital signature (DSC)
⇒ Once approved, the DIN becomes active immediately
2) Filing DIR-3 KYC (Annual Requirement)
⇒ Existing directors must file DIR-3 KYC or DIR-3 KYC WEB every year
⇒ Non-filing leads to DIN deactivation with a penalty of ₹5,000 for late filing
3) Reactivation of Deactivated DIN
⇒ Pay the penalty
⇒ File the delayed DIR-3 KYC form to reactivate the DIN
Why DIN Activation is Important
1. Without an active DIN, a person cannot act as a director
2. Company filings involving that director will be rejected by the MCA portal
3. It may lead to non-compliance for the company
