Food License

A Food License Registration Certificate is issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to ensure that food businesses comply with food safety and hygiene standards. It is mandatory for food manufacturers, restaurants, food processors, caterers, and online food businesses.

There are three types of FSSAI licenses based on business size:
Basic Registration – For small businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakh.
State License – For medium-sized businesses with turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore.
Central License – For large businesses with turnover above ₹20 crore or operations in multiple states.
Food License Registration (FSSAI) Procedure

FSSAI registration/license is based on the business volume and premises. Based on the capacity or turnover or location, the applicant is eligible for the license such as basic license, central license and state license. The FSSAI Bangalore registration procedure is as follows :

FSSAI registration is initiated by submitting the application to the Food and Safety Department.

This application can be accepted or it may be rejected by the Department within 7 days from the date of receipt of an application and the rejection has to be intimated to the applicant in writing

If the application is accepted, then the department will grant a registration certificate with the registration number and the photo of the applicant.

FBO should prominently display the certificate of registration at the place of business during the business hours.

Once the Food license has been applied it is valid upto 5 Years.

The renewal of the food license (renewal of FSSAI license) should be applied from either Form A or Form B before 30 days of the expiry of the existing registration. If you apply for the same post expiry, then you will be charged a late fee of Rs.100 for each day it was delayed. If the food license expires, then the business operator must mandatorily terminate all the existing business activities in that premises.

It is mandatory to renew your FSSAI license before it expires else you would have to apply for a new one.

FSSAI Food License Fees

The FSSAI license fee varies depending on the type and duration of the license. The fee structure fordifferent categories of FSSAI licenses is as follows:

Basic Registration : For small businesses or startups with an annual turnover below Rs.12 lakhs, the registration fee is ₹100 per year. The registration can be applied for up to a maximum of 5 years.

State License: For medium-sized food businesses with a turnover between Rs.12-20 crores, the state license fee is ₹2,000 per year. Similar to the basic registration, this license can be applied for up to 5 years.

Central License: Applicable to large food businesses with a turnover above Rs.20 crores, the central license fee is ₹7,500 per year. This license can also be applied for up to a 5-year period.

In case of modification or duplication of the license, an additional fee of 10% of the applicable license fee is charged. To ensure smooth business operations, it’s essential to renew your FSSAI license timely through the online portal, following the prescribed fee structure.

Procedure for State License Application:

⇒ Once you check the eligibility and if you are eligible for multiple licenses then you can apply for a state license individually.
⇒ You will be then directed to the State Licensing page where you will fill out the application shown according to the Act of food security, 2006.
⇒ It is filled in the same way as central.
