When you’re running a manufacturing or job work-based business under GST, keeping track of the goods sent for job work is crucial. That’s where Form ITC-04 comes in. It helps ensure transparency and proper input tax credit (ITC) tracking for goods sent to job workers.
Form ITC-04 is a GST return that captures the details of goods sent or received back from a job worker. It’s filed by the principal (manufacturer or supplier) who sends goods for job work.
If your business sends goods to a job worker for processing, repair, or reconditioning, and you wish to claim ITC on those goods, you are required to file ITC-04.
This includes:
• Goods sent directly to a job worker
• Goods sent from one job worker to another
• Goods returned to the principal
• Goods supplied from the job worker’s place
The frequency of filing Form ITC-04 depends on your business’s aggregate turnover in the preceding financial year:
If turnover is up to ₹5 crore:
You need to file annually.
📌 Due Date: 25th April of the following financial year.
If turnover is above ₹5 crore:
You need to file half-yearly.
📌 Due Dates: 25th October (for April–September) and 25th April (for October–March).
In ITC-04, you’ll provide:
⇒ Goods sent to job workers
⇒ Goods received back
⇒ Goods transferred between job workers
⇒ Goods not returned within the time limit
All of this ensures ITC is only claimed on goods that are actually returned or supplied properly.
⇒ Login to the GST portal: www.gst.gov.in
⇒ Go to Returns → ITC Forms → ITC-04
⇒ Upload details of goods sent/received
⇒ Verify and submit the form using DSC or EVC
⇒ If goods are not returned within 1 year (inputs) or 3 years (capital goods), ITC needs to be reversed.
⇒ Filing ITC-04 on time helps avoid interest, penalties, and compliance issues.
⇒ Job workers do not file ITC-04 — it’s the principal’s responsibility.
While ITC-04 may seem like just another form, it plays a vital role in maintaining clean records of goods movement, especially for businesses dealing with job work. Filing it on time ensures you stay GST-compliant and protect your ITC claims.
